What makes your session with Joshua different?
My work began with therapeutic massage — helping clients release tension, reduce pain, and regulate their nervous systems. Over time, I saw how deeply connected the body, mind, emotions, and energy truly are. Today, I offer Medical Intuitive Readings, Reiki, Karmic Unwrapping, Ancestral Healing, and Sound Vibrational Healing Therapy to support healing on every level — physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and energetic.

A Personal Journey Into Healing
Joshua's interest in healing began through his own experience.
At age 25, he suffered a stroke that resulted in significant weakness on the left side of his body. His recovery became a turning point in his life and led him to explore both conventional rehabilitation and complementary approaches to health and healing.
During this period, he became deeply interested in acupuncture, therapeutic massage, Reiki, yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, and other traditional healing systems.
What began as a personal search eventually became a lifelong study.
Joshua became fascinated not only by the physical structure of the body, but also by the ways that stress, emotion, lifestyle, energy, relationships, and consciousness can influence a person's experience of health and well-being.
That curiosity ultimately led him to study healing traditions throughout the United States and Asia.
A Strong Foundation in Bodywork and the Physical Body
Before Joshua's work became primarily intuitive and energetic, he spent many years studying and practicing hands-on therapeutic bodywork.
This education gave him extensive experience observing muscular patterns, structural tension, movement, breath, physical holding patterns, and the many ways people experience stress within the body.
Joshua studied at the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, California, where he completed training in Shiatsu and Advanced Shiatsu.
He continued his bodywork education at the McKinnon Body Therapy Center in Oakland, California, completing training in Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue Therapy.
His studies later took him to northern Thailand, where he received advanced training in Traditional Thai Massage at the International Training Massage School in Chiang Mai.
While in Thailand, Joshua also spent time studying with Buddhist teacher Jah Bou, learning traditional Buddhist healing practices and Thai foot reflexology.
His education continued in India, where he studied Ayurvedic massage, lymphatic massage, and other traditional therapeutic techniques at Athien Healing School in Pune.
This extensive hands-on background gave Joshua something that continues to influence his work today: a practical understanding of the body developed through thousands of hours of working directly with people.
Although Nada Healing is now a fully virtual practice, Joshua's bodywork experience continues to inform the way he intuitively considers physical tension, posture, breath, energetic patterns, lifestyle, and the relationship between physical and emotional well-being.
Joshua Barr | Founder of Nada Healing
Medical Intuitive | Ayurvedic Practitioner | Reiki Master | Mantra & Sound Healer | Founder of Nada Healing
Joshua Barr is the founder of Nada Healing, a virtual holistic wellness and spiritual healing practice based in San Diego, California.
For more than 20 years, Joshua has studied the relationship between the physical body, emotions, energy, lifestyle, consciousness, and spiritual well-being. His background brings together extensive education in therapeutic bodywork, Ayurveda, Reiki, yoga, meditation, Siddha healing traditions, Sanskrit mantra, sound healing, and intuitive energy work.
Today, his work through Nada Healing draws upon this broad foundation through Medical Intuitive Sessions, Karmic Unwrapping, Ancestral Healing, Ayurveda-informed wellness, distance Reiki, Sanskrit mantra and sound healing, and holistic Men's Health consultations.
Although Joshua no longer offers massage therapy or hands-on bodywork, his decades of bodywork education and experience remain an important foundation for the way he understands and approaches the human body.
A Decade of Study in India
One of the most formative periods of Joshua's life was the nearly decade he spent living and studying in Tamil Nadu, India.
During this time, Joshua lived and studied in the spiritual community of Sri Sakthi Amma, where his practice of meditation, devotion, Sanskrit mantra, and traditional Hindu spiritual practices deepened considerably.
Joshua also helped build and launch the Sri Narayani Holistic Centre in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, where he served as head of the therapies department.
Working within a holistic center gave him the opportunity to bring together many of the disciplines he had studied—including bodywork, Ayurveda, energy practices, meditation, and traditional Indian approaches to wellness.
His years in India also led to a much deeper study of Sanskrit mantra and sacred sound.
Joshua continues his study and practice of Vedic mantra and traditional ceremonies and remains deeply influenced by the spiritual traditions that shaped his years in India.
Mantra, Sound and Nada Healing
Sacred sound eventually became such an important part of Joshua's work that it helped inspire the name Nada Healing.
In Sanskrit, nāda refers to sound or vibration.
Joshua's approach to sound healing differs from simply using relaxing music or instruments. His work is strongly influenced by the traditional use of Sanskrit mantra, meditation, vibration, and sacred sound.
Over time, mantra became increasingly integrated into his Reiki, intuitive, ancestral, and energetic healing work.
This combination of intuitive awareness, energy healing, mantra, Ayurveda, and decades of experience understanding the physical body ultimately became the foundation of Nada Healing.
From Bodywork to Intuitive Whole-Person Healing
Joshua's work has continued to evolve.
After decades of hands-on therapeutic work, his practice gradually became focused on the patterns that may exist beneath what a person is experiencing physically or emotionally.
He became increasingly interested in questions such as:
Why does the same emotional pattern keep returning?
How might stress and relationships be affecting someone's sense of well-being?
What family patterns have been carried from one generation to another?
How do lifestyle, constitution, emotion, and energy interact?
Why can someone understand a pattern intellectually and still feel unable to move beyond it?
What helps a person reconnect with a deeper sense of meaning, clarity, and spiritual connection?
These questions eventually led Joshua to develop a more integrated approach combining intuitive observation, Ayurveda, Reiki, emotional pattern exploration, ancestral work, Sanskrit mantra, meditation, and energetic healing.
They also contributed to the development of his signature approach, Karmic Unwrapping.
Karmic Unwrapping
Karmic Unwrapping is a signature intuitive healing approach developed by Joshua Barr to explore recurring emotional, relational, behavioral, and energetic patterns that may be connected with difficult experiences, relationships, or deeply held impressions.
Rather than approaching karma as punishment, Joshua uses the concept as a framework for looking at patterns that continue to exert an influence long after an experience has passed.
Karmic Unwrapping may incorporate intuitive insight, Reiki, Sanskrit mantra, breathwork, meditation, and energetic healing with the intention of helping a person recognize and release old patterns and reconnect with greater clarity and a more authentic sense of self.
Ayurveda and Traditional Indian Healing
Joshua's exploration of the body eventually led him more deeply into Ayurveda and the traditional healing systems of India.
Ayurveda expanded his understanding beyond individual symptoms and encouraged him to look at the person as an interconnected whole.
Through Ayurveda, he studied how constitution, digestion, daily routine, sleep, stress, environment, emotional tendencies, age, and lifestyle can all contribute to a person's overall state of balance.
Joshua also studied traditional Siddha Varma therapy in Tamil Nadu, India, with Siddha teacher Pal Pandian through a traditional Gurukul-style lineage.
Varma deepened his study of the body's vital points and the traditional understanding of the relationship between physical structure, subtle energy, and consciousness.
These traditions helped shape the whole-person perspective that Joshua now brings to his Medical Intuitive and wellness work.
Reiki and Energy Healing
Joshua is also a trained Reiki Master.
His Reiki education connects to the traditional Hawayo Takata lineage through Rev. Fran Brown, who was the seventh Reiki Master trained by Hawayo Takata.
Over the years, Reiki became increasingly integrated with Joshua's meditation, intuitive work, mantra practice, and understanding of subtle energy.
Today, he offers Reiki remotely as part of Nada Healing's virtual healing work and may also integrate Reiki into Karmic Unwrapping, Ancestral Healing, and other individualized sessions.
Yoga, Meditation and the Study of Consciousness
Alongside his physical healing education, Joshua spent decades exploring yoga and meditation as tools for understanding the mind, body, and consciousness.
He received yoga teacher training through Siddhi Yoga International and has studied with teachers from several yoga traditions.
His spiritual studies also brought him into Buddhist monasteries in Thailand and Cambodia and Hindu ashrams throughout India.
These experiences gradually shifted his understanding of healing.
Rather than seeing the body as something separate from the mind or spirit, Joshua came to view a person as a complex interaction of physical health, emotions, beliefs, relationships, habits, energy, family history, and spiritual life.
That understanding remains at the center of Nada Healing today.
Joshua's Work Today
Today, Joshua works with clients virtually through Nada Healing.
His current work includes:
Medical Intuitive Sessions
Karmic Unwrapping
Ancestral Healing
Ayurveda-informed wellness guidance
Distance Reiki and energy healing
Sanskrit mantra and sound healing
Holistic Men's Health consultations
Rather than applying the same method to everyone, Joshua's approach is highly individualized.
A session may begin with a physical or lifestyle concern and lead into emotional patterns. Another may focus on relationships, family history, stress, energy, or spiritual questions. Ayurveda may be particularly helpful for one person, while Reiki, mantra, ancestral work, or Karmic Unwrapping may be more relevant for another.
Joshua's goal is to understand the person as a whole rather than as a collection of separate problems.
The physical body remains an important part of that understanding.
So do the emotions.
So do relationships, lifestyle, family patterns, energy, and spiritual life.
After more than two decades of studying these different dimensions of healing, Joshua created Nada Healing as a place where they can be explored together.
